PRESS RELEASE

Bucharest, 5th January 2021. The Romanian College of Pharmacists (CFR) and the Romanian Association of Pharmaceutical Distributors and Retailers (ADRFR) are warning about the payment delays of the National Health Insurance House for the medicines provided to patients through the local pharmacies.

The overdue payment of the National Health Insurance House to the pharmacies brings consequences over the entire chain of medicines distribution, as those amounts are in turn payment obligations for the suppliers, distributors, and producers. Moreover, the overdue payments to the suppliers mean both interests on late payment and interruption of medicine deliveries. This situation would worsen the already existing problems regarding the access of patients to the necessary medicines.

We draw attention to the major risk of a potential bottleneck on the pharmaceutical units’ supply, even in the first months of 2021, if the situation is not solved as soon as possible.
